5 Awesome Things to do at Labadee

Let’s face it, Labadee is a slice of paradise and a welcome respite from the cruise ship. As you descend to the dock to take your walk to the beach, I am sure you are pondering all the things you have read that you can do on Labadee. But, as you walk, you notice the zip line, the beaches, the roofs of the palapas and the general beach feel of the secluded peninsula. What are some things you should do?

1 – Dragon’s Breath Zip Line

Personally, I love zip lines. Most of them are fairly short and maybe a hundred feet above the ground. The zip line at Labadee is ½ mile long and starts at 500 feet above sea level (really)!  It’s a little pricey, but for a ride with sites and thrills, this may be for you.

2 – Artisan’s Market

If you love to shop, Royal Cruise Lines has created an Artisan’s Market with local crafts and artwork. This may be the only opportunity you have to get a “ti gout” (taste) of the local culture. The artwork is colorful and addicting. The crafts are unique. I have several pieces in my home from previous trips.

3 – Dragon’s Tail Roller Coaster

Who thought that roller coasters were limited to amusement parks of Florida and California (and several other locations)? Well, they were wrong. There is a roller coaster on Labadee, Haiti. The roller coaster is a five minute ride that will give you views of the sea, the ship an travels through the rain forest.

4 – Beach Time

Labadee is a peninsula with waves on one side and a beautiful lagoon on the other side. Whichever side you choose to relax on the beach, you will find beautiful sand, water that has brilliant shades of blue and palm trees for the ultimate picture.

5 – Parasail Over Labadee

If you haven’t tried parasailing, you should. It is something that needs be done at least one time. It is an incredible way to get a birdseye view of your surrounding area. It is exhilarating and relaxing at the same time floating 150 feet in the air.

Of course, the best part of visiting Labadee might be visiting with the locals. The Haitian people are friendly and love to meet people from all over the world. There is a smile and warmth that will stay with you long after you leave this little slice of paradise. Remember, life is an adventure. Live it!
